What's on in Wimbledon during The Championships?
Plus: The Wimble summer edition has arrived!
Good morning, Wimblers.
Our summer print edition is here. It’s been a labour of love. Huge thanks to the rest of the team who worked on it: Love Wimbledon, Romulus, Aidan Mac Guill, Richard Heap and Joshi Herrmann. Copies can be found in Wimbledon Quarter — outside M&S and in The Fire Station Café — and should be going through letterboxes in the coming days.
Don’t worry if you can’t grab a copy; we’ll be uploading many of the print articles to our online newsletters as the weeks go by.
This week, instead of your usual recommendations, we have a “What’s on in Wimbledon during The Championships” section for those wondering what to do with themselves throughout the fortnight. We’ve also got news snippets and a small section about my visit to the AELTC for the one-year anniversary of the Championing Nature scheme with conservationist, explorer and TV presenter Steve Backshall.
Happy reading!

🛑 Merton council is seeking urgent confirmation that maternity services will continue at St Helier Hospital, after making clear its strong opposition to any reduction or relocation of services from the hospital. The hospital has suffered significant underinvestment and is reportedly now having to consider temporarily relocating maternity services to other nearby hospitals to deal with serious disrepair concerns. 🍓 Wimbledon prices skyrocket as the beloved combination of Pimm’s, strawberries and cream surpasses £15 for the first time in the tournament’s history. The Wimbledon staple now costs a whopping £16.50, marking a 9% jump from last year. A single glass of Pimm’s has also risen by £1.20, now coming in at £13.45.
🛍 Lovisa opened in Wimbledon Quarter this week! Inspired by couture runways and emerging street styles from around the globe, Lovisa’s dedicated trend-spotting teams work continuously to translate the latest fashion movements into fresh, wearable designs. Pop in and check it out.
🔥 Play during the Wimbledon qualifiers at Roehampton was suspended for over an hour due to a power outage that caused the tournament’s Electronic Line Calling (ELC) system to fail amid extreme heat. Click here to read more in the Independent.
🚧 Parking restrictions are back for The Championships. During Wimbledon fortnight there will be a number of parking restrictions throughout Wimbledon Village, Wimbledon Park and parts of Wimbledon town centre. Click here for more information and here to see a map of all the affected roads.
The Wimble’s sponsor of the week 💻
This week’s edition is sponsored by Huddle Wimbledon. Escape from the heat with a day pass in their air conditioned coworking space (with a free drink!).
Property of the week 🏡
This four-bedroom, end-of-terrace home screams modernity. Just look at that kitchen, “playroom” and humongous balcony. This house is actually closer to Southfields than Wimbledon, but that still means you’ve got the District line on your doorstep. But how much does it cost to own a home of this size? Currently, Claudia Place is listed at £1.3 million. Check out more photos here.

Wimbledon Championships on The Piazza

Arthur at Polka Theatre
This summer, join Polka for their flagship show reimagining the Arthurian legend. It’s winter solstice 2026, and Grace is in A&E with Lego stuck up her nose, waiting for someone to notice her. Meanwhile, during the summer solstice 526AD, Arthur is setting out on the journey of a lifetime, tasked with retrieving the sword for the future king. As Grace and Arthur’s two worlds collide, they must embark on the biggest quest of their lives to retrieve Excalibur … if they can only figure out how to work together.
When: Saturday 20 June – Sunday 9 August
Where: Polka Theatre

Her Court: The Role that Wimbledon Played in the Suffragette Movement
Cynthia Corbett Gallery’s Young Masters is presenting a new exhibition this summer in partnership with Wimbledon Museum. The selected artists were given the chance to engage with the archives of Wimbledon Museum and respond with work that tackles the curatorial themes and historical artefacts. The resulting exhibition explores the little known relationship between Wimbledon and the women’s suffrage movement, drawing on themes of courage, resistance, erasure and more.
When: Thursday 2 – Saturday 11 July, 11am-5pm
Where: Wimbledon Museum
Love Wimbledon markets on The Piazza
Whilst not strictly during the fortnight, Love Wimbledon’s markets happen at the end of every month and are great fun. Whatever it is that you fancy, this market has it. From Bombay Delight’s award-winning curries to secondhand vinyl classics courtesy of So Pop Vinyl, the Piazza’s market is a smorgasbord of treats. Check it out if you’re here before the tournament starts, or if you’re hanging around a little longer.
When: Friday 27 – Saturday 28 / Saturday 1 – Sunday 2 August
Where: The Piazza, Wimbledon
Courtside at the Quarter
Arguably the most laid-back spot to watch the tennis this year. Recline on the Quarter’s deckchairs and watch the action unfold on the big screen. They’ve even got a retractable roof (just like the real stadium), so you can pretend you’re courtside. There will also be tennis-themed markets on both weekends of the Championships, while Wilton Tennis Club will be running two mini-tennis sessions between 1–4pm on both Saturdays of the tennis fortnight (for free).
Perhaps most importantly, the Quarter will once again be giving away free strawberries and cream on both tournament Saturdays.
When: Monday 29 June – Sunday 12 July
Where: Wimbledon Quarter
Live music at the Rose & Crown
Join local Wimbledon lad Christian Short, who takes to the stage as the Rose & Crown’s opening act for the tennis fortnight. A bunch of acts will be playing at the Rose & Crown throughout the tennis fortnight for free! Click here to check out more performances and dates.
When: Wednesday 1 July, 6–9pm (first night)
Where: Rose & Crown, Wimbledon Village
Wimbledon’s Championing Nature scheme celebrates its first anniversary 🎉
Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending the All England Club’s first anniversary celebrations for its Championing Nature scheme. The event — Championing Nature: Game. Set. Grow. — was hosted by climate presenter Abbie Dewhurst and featured a keynote speech from famed naturalist, broadcaster and programme ambassador Steve Backshall.
Championing Nature is a multi-year initiative delivered by four Wildlife Trusts across London, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle, and it funds projects aiming to help those in underserved areas access green spaces, learn about the natural world and develop a deeper connection with nature.
After a small reception, we listened as young people and conservation leaders from across the country spoke about the excellent work they have been doing over the past year and shared personal stories of leadership, conservation and community action. Since the scheme’s inception in May 2025, 28,539 people have taken part in 865 sessions and activities, with 73% of participants coming from underserved and under-resourced communities.
Speaking after the event, Steve Backshall said, “Spending time in nature can completely change the way young people see the world and their place within it. What’s been so inspiring about Championing Nature is seeing young people not only reconnect with the environment but also become leaders and advocates within their own communities. The passion, confidence and commitment we have heard today gives me huge optimism for the future.”
It was a lovely opportunity to hear about the great work that young people are undertaking across the UK to tackle climate change and lead the charge for a brighter tomorrow. I think the most important takeaway from the day was the point about underserved communities and their need for greener spaces. It also made me reflect on our borough and how lucky we are to have green spaces readily available. So many of The Wimble’s readers write in to talk about their outdoor activities, nature projects and sustainability schemes. I’d love to keep the momentum going, so please do get in touch if you have any stories relating to nature, sustainability or any schemes supporting the underserved parts of our community: zak@thewimble.com.
